One of the questions families often ask when exploring Waldorf education is: How do Waldorf students transition to high school?
For Charlottesville Waldorf School alumna Eleanor, the answer is through creativity, confidence, a willingness to try new things, and a strong foundation built over many years.
Eleanor, a member of the CWS Class of 2023, recently reflected on her experience at Charlottesville Waldorf School and her transition to a large public high school in her home district in Virginia. In this alumni interview, she shares her memories from her years at Charlottesville Waldorf School and how they were foundational to her interests and abilities moving into a larger high school environment.
A Strong Foundation for the Next Chapter
At CWS, students develop more than academic skills. Through a hands-on, experiential curriculum, students learn to think creatively, communicate clearly, collaborate with others, and approach challenges with confidence.
Eleanor’s experience reflects the many ways Waldorf education prepares students for their next steps. The habits she developed at CWS, including independence, curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to engage deeply with her learning, helped her navigate the transition to a new school environment.
Staying Connected to the CWS Community
Although Eleanor moved on to a new school, the relationships and experiences she built at CWS continue to be an important part of her educational journey.
“Our alumni remind us that the impact of a Waldorf education extends far beyond graduation,” says communications coordinator Amanda Polson. “The confidence and enthusiasm for learning that students develop at CWS stay with them as they enter new communities and take on new challenges.”
