Our third grade students have been practicing jumping rope and they are almost ready for their Jumpathon on Tuesday, November 25!
The students are looking forward to their spring Farm Trip to Spikenard Farm in Floyd, VA and they are recruiting pledges for their Jumpathon to help offset the costs of the trip.
Spikenard Farm is a biodynamic honeybee sanctuary and farm on the banks of the Little River in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Floyd, VA. Since 2008 they have been cultivating the gardens and eco-system of the farm to enhance the nutrition and health of honeybees and native pollinators. On their visit to Spikenard, the students will learn about the bees, visit with goats, help in the gardens, and work with the educators who are part of the farm. They will camp on a mountaintop with their faculty chaperones – no parents on this trip! – and help with food preparation and clean up.
The Farm Trip is a rite of passage for our third grade students and we are so fortunate to have Spikenard Farm here in Virginia so the students can have a trip away that is still so relevant to the landscape and climate they call home.
Thank you for helping to make this trip possible!
