Music is Built In

At Charlottesville Waldorf School, music is an essential part of every child’s day. All students sing together, building confidence and joy through song.

Formal music classes begin in first grade, when children learn to play the Pentatonic flute—an introduction to reading music in a playful, accessible way.

In second grade, students begin playing the recorder, deepening their musical skills and sense of melody.

By third grade, every student learns a string instrument, laying the foundation for ensemble playing and a lifelong appreciation of music.

From singing in circle time to performing in concerts, music weaves connection and creativity throughout the years at CWS.
