CWS SCRIP PROGRAM
AKA “FREE MONEY FOR OUR SCHOOL”
HOW DOES IT WORK? CWS buys gift cards from Whole Foods, Kroger, and Food Lion. You purchase the gift cards from CWS for the exact cash value of the card (e.g. a $25 gift card is worth $25 when you use it to shop). You do your usual shopping and the school makes money!
* WHOLE FOODS: Gift cards come in $25, $50, and $100 amounts.
* FOOD LION: Gift cards come in $50 and $100 amounts.
You may buy as few or as many as you like. The school earns 5% for every dollar spent in scrip. (ie CWS makes $50 for every $1,000 in scrip it sells).
* KROGER: Kroger gift cards are refillable and work differently: you purchase a $5 gift card from CWS (worth $5 of groceries, prescriptions, or gas). You then put any dollar amount you wish onto the gift card (using cash, check, debit, or credit card) when you shop at Kroger. You still use your Kroger card for usual discounts. CWS gets a check for 5% of all total purchases! Refill your card every time and CWS will make 5% of every purchase you make.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
* Where do I get these great scrip gift cards? In the front office during office hours or from Cyndy Caughron in the financial office near the Little Red House on M/T/TH from 8 am-4pm. If you can’t purchase from either location, please email Jen Edelson (jedelson@cwaldorf.org) to arrange another form of pickup.
* Do I have to pay extra to use scrip? NO! You pay the face value to purchase the giftcards (scrip) from the school and you receive the full value of the giftcard amount when you use it. The participating merchants contribute the $$ that CWS earns from your giftcard use.
* What happens if I lose my card? Scrip giftcards are like cash and cannot be replaced or refunded if lost or stolen, so treat them as you would cash. CWS cannot be responsible for lost or stolen cards.
* Can I use the cards outside of Charlottesville? YES! Take them when you travel, use them as gifts and send them to out-of-town family members!
* Why should I buy scrip? CWS NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT! The scrip program is the easiest fundraising our school has ever done. Last year, we made almost $6,000 by people choosing to buy a scrip card for groceries they would have purchased anyway. Participants are responsible for donating almost $5,000 to the school without spending a penny of their own money! If every family spent just $50 in scrip every week, our school would earn $13,000 in one year!
